Don Sparks, co-founder of Platt, Sparks & Associates has been a petroleum engineer since 1962. He joined the ranks of consulting engineers in 1971 with a Midland consulting firm and during 1973, opened a private consulting office in Midland. Sparks subsequently formed Discovery Operating, Inc., where he serves as President and Chairman of the Board. Discovery Operating, Inc. presently operates over 200 wells producing about 1,500 barrels of oil and 10,000,000 cubic feet of gas daily.

Prior to entering the consulting business Sparks was employed by Shell Oil Company and later, with Freeport Oil Company for a combined total of eight years. With Shell, he served as exploitation engineer and reservoir engineer, where duties included active participation in planning and supervision of drilling and production operations. Work also included involvement in all phases of waterflooding. While with Freeport, Sparks directed all drilling and production operations for West Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and the Rocky Mountain areas.

Sparks manages the Midland Office of Platt, Sparks & Associates, where the firm specializes in reservoir studies and financial evaluations for individual and/or company interests. In addition, the Midland office has been involved in evaluating field operations to find appropriate ways to reduce field expenses and/or improve production rates for independent companies. Other services include analyses for estate trust management. Sparks has also testified as an expert witness before both Federal and State Courts. His consulting and independent producing background enables Sparks to be especially sensitive to the particular needs of independent producers, working interest participants, and royalty owners.

He is a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Texas, and a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers. He has served as Treasurer and President of the Permian Basin Section.
